[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iqkYXyFA78w] The National Geography Bee 2012 is upon us this memorial day. On May 28, the Nat Geo Bee finalists (10) will compete on National Geographic Channel.   This is one of the greatest days in young America and geographic education.  Even though I shouldn't be envious, I am.  These children have an amazing opportunity to demonstrate their premier geo-literacy on national television and compete for a $25,000 scholarship.   These 10, 11, 12, 13, and 14 year-olds are a beautiful spectacle; as the video above suggests.

National Geographic is the organizing body of the Nat Geo Bee and his moderated by Alex Trebek (Jeopardy).  Google is the title sponsor of the event.  After the Nat Geo Bee, the Geographic World Championships are held at Google's headquarters in Silicon Valley against a dozen other countries throughout the industrialized western world.

You can find more information on National Geographic's Website and take Today's Geography Quiz.

Let's help promote Geographic Education and increase our Geo-Literate aptitude.
